Used to deter or catch poachers, this could cause serious injury such
as a broken leg
 The use of spring-guns and man-traps was forbidden by an act of parliament in 1826
 In 1830 Lord Melbourne proposed that the act be repealed so people could apply for a license to protect their property by these means
 Although passed in the House of Lords, nobody saw fit to put this abhorrent law into practice
