Village of Old Coulsdon

Village Ponds Page 2
Up until the late 1950s there was a Blacksmith still working on the site behind
what is now Robe & Hitchins garage
He used to shoe the horses from the riding stables that were situated between the garage
and Bradmoore Green pond
In 1890 Forge pond was the scene of an accident when a horse drawn vehicle, a dog cart,
carrying four people, careered into this 14ft deep pond
The driver, his Neice, and the Horse were drowned
The Mother and Son both survived
In 1906 William Smith drowned in Bradmore Green Pond
Sorry, but  their ghosts do not haunt either pond.
There is also a well outside the Girl Guides hut
My mother, who was a Brownie pack leader (Brown Owl) was standing
outside the Guide hut talking to one of her brownies, after a pack meeting,
when the ground behind the brownie collapsed, and the well shaft was exposed
A very luck escape for both of them
