One of the two Old Coulsdon Windmills on the Commom
Photographed in 1918

This Windmill was built about 1777, and was in use as a flour mill until 1899
It was demolished in 1924
The other Windmill was a corn mill and stood next to the house known as Windmill House
This house still stands and is used by the kennels, and cattery

The Windmills were opposite each other on different sides of Stites Hill Road

The flour mills giant Oak stem post was re-used as the newel post for the main
spiralled staircase in a house, built in 1925, at Holmbury St Mary, Surrey
This house was built for £3000, and is now valued at about £2 million (2003)

Richard Dewdney owned both Mills from about 1780 to 1800
His nephew, James Dewdney, owned the Mills from 1800 until 1826 when they were taken over by James Russell
